The purpose of LUKE’S Daily Math Energizer Consumable Workbook is to enhance student’s thinking and promote proficiency at problem solving. This book is designed to serve as a bell ringer, an appetizer, warm up, or introduction to the daily instructional time period for mathematics. The student should be allowed to explore and answer questions independently prior to whole class discussion. This book will also promote teacher driven instruction at the end of each daily lesson. In order to maximize the effectiveness of this workbook, each lesson should be discussed in its entirety upon completion. The suggested time spent on each daily lesson should be approximately 10-15 minutes.

Each daily energizer lesson consists of four major components: “Daily Review”, “Problem of the Day or Problem Solving”, “Math Skill and Concept Focus”, and “Reflection: What I Learned Today”.

The student will have an opportunity to engage in “Reflection Time” at the end of each lesson discussion (teacher/student). The “Reflection Time” serves as an opportunity for students to transcribe newly acquired mathematical concepts and skills, vocabulary, or whatever he or she deems important at the end of each respective energizer lesson. This also allows each student an opportunity to journalize his or her thought process and generate new ideas.
